Beeswax: Mother Nature’s gift

Scented candles conjure up images of relaxation, beautifully scented rooms, relatively affordable luxury and pretty home decor.  However, there is a downside to this ambience, aroma and the appearance of a modern and well-kept interior.  There is both the toxic journey from the  distillation of petro-chemicals into paraffin candles or paraffin/soy candles that a lot of people burn in their homes but consider also, the additional chemicals that are manufactured into the fragrance oils which are used to scent these candles and other wax products such as wax melts.  These scents can be toxic to our airways, nervous system and brain tissue, causing problems such as asthma and migraines, and these may be the least dangerous of the damages caused.

Have you ever stopped to think about tea-light candles?  You probably aren’t aware, but they are made from paraffin wax, a highly toxic by product of petroleum refinement.  Apart from being environmentally unfriendly, polluting air and waterways, they are also highly toxic to our lungs and therefore the air we breathe.

Paraffin wax is extracted from the sludge found at the bottom of a barrel of crude oil.  This then undergoes bleaching and treatment by further carcinogens, namely benzene and toluene.  Further to this, other toxic colours and fragrances are added to make this toxic product appealing to purchasers.  The final result is the innocent looking tea-light candle which releases nothing but poisons into the air of your home as they burn irritating the airways and nervous systems of you and your family.  As well as these toxins, soot is released into the air causing cosmetic damage to the furnishings in your home but worse than this, the soot is inhaled by you and your family, lodging in the deepest areas of your lungs.  This would negate the good you are trying to do by burning beautiful essential oils in your oil burner.

All of the toxins in the air inside your home have a positive ion charge.  This is how they suspend in the air.  Thankfully, there is a solution.  This can be counteracted by the negative ion charge produced by a 100% beeswax candle burning in your home.  Beeswax candles also have a longer burn time, in fact three times the burn time of the mainstream candles.  The safest alternative are the beeswax candles although, having said this, they are not suitable for vegans.  (There are higher end soy candles suitable for vegans).

The problem of pollutants does not stop with the wax.  The wicks can also contain zinc (lead, I understand, was phased out by law in the 1970’s),  which is also an air pollutants and unhealthy to be inhaling over the burn time of roughly 3-4 hours of your candle.   We produce 100% pure beeswax candles and use 100% cotton wicks with paper braiding, and which are soaked in vegetable wax to provide rigidity – there is nothing pollutant at all when burning our beeswax candles.

Beeswax candles are natural negative ion generators, so when you burn a beeswax candle you are actually cleaning the air you breathe as opposed to polluting it.  Negative ionisation of the air actually makes you feel healthier.   Being Mother Nature’s natural air purifiers, negative ions also clear the air of dust and dust mites, mould, bacteria and viruses as well as other nasty toxins found in polluted air.  Beeswax candles are the only candles to produce these negative ions, removing pollution from the air in your home.  People who have asthma and other allergies have reported an improvement in symptoms when burning 100% beeswax candles for a few hours in their bedroom before they go to sleep.  (Of course, this candle would not be left unattended!).  This is because allergens and dust mites are removed from the air.  People have also reported sleeping better when beeswax candles are burned in their room before they go to bed.
