Amethyst

Amethyst has been held in high esteem throughout history both for its glorious beauty as well as its powers to alleviate the mind and spirit of ills.  Associations with the month of February have led to its being believed to be the stone of Pisces.

Amethyst  is a variety of quartz with varying amounts of manganese and iron giving it the colourations that we have come to admire and use for jewellery and meditation amongst other uses such as chakra healing.  It is associated with the Third Eye Chakra and Crown Chakra working on focus, in addition to clearing and purifying the mind of negative thought patterns. Other gifts are the energy of seeing both inner and outer worlds.  Along with this comes spiritual contemplation and self-reflection.  Inner wisdom allows us to access deeper truths, seeing beyond the mind and beyond words.

Amethyst is a powerful and protective stone.  It will guard against the harrowing effects of a psychic attack, transmuting the energy instead into love and protecting the wearer of amethyst from all types of harm, including geopathic stress and ill wishes (or the evil eye) from other human beings.

Amethyst is a natural tranquilliser, relieving stress and strain, soothing irritability and balancing mood swings as well as dispelling anger, rage, fear and anxiety.  Amethyst importantly, begins the healing process for those overcome with sadness and grief, and for those suffering the loss of a loved one, amethyst offers from its divine powers the beginnings of healing and the powerful but necessary journey towards acceptance of the death of their loved one.  Amethyst helps to dissolve this negativity imbuing the owner or wearer of amethyst with positivity, strength, resilience and forbearance.  Amethyst activates spiritual awareness, opens intuition and enhances psychic abilities.  It has strong healing and cleansing powers.  Amethyst encourages selflessness and spiritual wisdom which are often qualities which are found in those who are bereaved.  The bereaved often become the bearers of a higher psyche, being that they have suffered so much harrowing pain in their lives, and surely the Divine Powers should have mercy on the souls of those who are bereaved.

There is an ancient Greek perspective between a maiden called Amethyst and the God of Wine, Bacchus.  Since then the stone has been associated with sobriety.  Amethyst encourages sobriety, having a sobering effect on the overindulgence of alcohol, drugs and other addictive substances.  Furthermore, it calms and allows for positive and controlled stimulation of the mind, helping you to become more focused, also enhancing memory and improving motivation.  What could be more desired than mental peace and quietude? Amethyst can convey these qualities upon the wearer or user.

Amethyst relieves the problem of insomnia and leads to restful sleep thereby assisting to remember and understand dreams.  Amethyst could therefore be placed in the bedroom.  It could also be placed in the family room which would increase family bonding.  Wherever it is placed in the home, its properties will come to the fore and heal for the people in the home.  Similarly, meditation with amethyst may be done in a room which is softly lit and full of calming energy, through music, lighting or whatever way you prefer to manifest certain qualities for yourself and your home.  An amethyst point will send energy and intentions out into the universe.

Meditation

Sit or lie in your usual position for meditation with amethyst in your hand, breathing in the energy of the crystal, meditating on its properties of healing and manifestation, or whichever property you have decided to meditate upon for that day, visualising what it is that you want and allowing the energy to manifest clarity of the mind.  You will feel your spirit imbued with confidence and feel your spirit being protected.  Towards the end of the meditation session, inhale all the positivity you have manifested and then exhale any leftover anxieties or negativities.

Remember to cleanse your amethyst crystal after meditating.  Amethyst can be cleansed under running water with intent and affirmation that the stone be cleared.

Ametrine, a combination of amethyst and citrine has an interesting financial property.  If left in natural light from noon on the day of a full moon and through the night to catch the moon’s light, then carry the stone on your person from the following day.  This is said to bring luck in monetary ventures to the bearer of the ametrine stone.

Particularly helpful in grief work is the ‘rutilated’ amethyst where the intent to heal the intensity of the grief is meditated upon and thoughts of your loved one are meditated upon whilst holding this rutilated amethyst crystal.  The brownish segments of the stone are known as Goethite and this is said to find the link between the deeper psyche and Mother Earth, clearing the Base chakras, aligning the chakra system to higher consciousness, purifying the emotions.  This is said to be helpful for the grieving person.  It is said to assist communications with the angels and with the spirit worlds where your loved one is now found.  Simple intent is enough to facilitate this communication, intent and prayers or messages in the special and close language that you spoke with your loved one.
